Pedestrian Collision Evidence at Kelowna Crosswalks: What to Record

A general evidence checklist for pedestrians and families after a traffic incident at or near a crossing.

Document the crossing itself

Road markings, traffic signals, sight lines, lighting, weather, parked vehicles, and nearby signs can all help describe the physical setting. Wide photographs are useful because they show how the pieces relate to each other.

Record the direction of travel

Write down where the pedestrian came from, where they were going, and the direction vehicles were moving. A simple sketch can help if the scene is complicated.

Preserve clothing and property information

If a bag, phone, bicycle, clothing, or another personal item was damaged, photograph it before discarding or repairing it. Keep receipts when replacement or repair is necessary.

Use medical and incident records together

The accident file and health file should both be preserved. They answer different questions and together help create a clearer timeline of the event and recovery.
