Photograph the damage before repairs

If possible, keep clear photos showing the damaged areas from several angles. Include wider views so the location of the damage on the vehicle is easy to understand.

Save estimates and invoices separately

An estimate is not the same as a final invoice. Keep both if you receive them. Also save towing, storage, rental, or transportation paperwork that relates directly to the collision.

Record important vehicle conversations

If you speak with a repair facility or insurer about inspection, parts, timing, or additional damage, note the date and a short summary. You do not need a transcript; a simple log is usually enough to preserve the sequence.

Keep the vehicle file separate from injury notes

Vehicle and injury issues can overlap, but separate sections make the overall file easier to review. You can connect them later through a master timeline.
